FTA Ireland has appointed Niall Cotton as its new interim chief executive to replace outgoing chief executive Aidan Flynn, who is leaving the organisation after 14 years.
Cotton (Pictured, below) was a founder member of FTA Ireland, and has been president and director of the organisation since its inception in 2010. With 20 years of industry experience in senior management positions in logistics, operations and commerce, he has a particular interest in safety and compliance and was part of the team which created the Trucksafe programme, which ensures operational excellence and reinforces safety standards across the haulage industry.
Cotton said: “Aidan’s leadership of FTA Ireland has been transformational, giving our industry a strong voice in the corridors of power and helping to drive the policy agendas that affect those that deliver for Ireland, from skills development to compliance. His work in the apprenticeship space, in particular, has ensured that our sector can now start to develop the talent we need to recruit for years to come: he will be sorely missed.
“Thanks to his leadership and vision, the organisation is in a great place from which to build and develop the status and reputation of our industry, ensuring that policy makers know how our sector can help to drive the economy forwards. On behalf of our members, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all his efforts – I look forward to building on his legacy with the staff and members of the association in the coming months while the board works to find a permanent replacement.”
